The purpose of Pressure Reducing Station (PRS) is to gain more latent heat from the steam by reducing its pressure to an acceptable level as well as safety of process equipments. The benefits of PRS are mentioned below –
- Substantial latent heat gain from the steam for indirect heating application
- Dryness of the steam improves because of isentropic expansion
- Safety of the process equipment’s from high pressure steam
- Since the pressure & temperature of the steam are related, controlling pressure enables to control the temperature accurately in the process.
Steam should be available to the process in the right quantity, should be of right quality and should be at right pressure and temperature.
Since the majority of pressure reducing valve problems is caused by improper designing, presence of moisture and presence of dirt, therefore a properly designed PRS is required for trouble free and accurate control on the process
